Appendix A: Terminology Glossary

All specialised terms, acronyms, coded language, and frequently used phrases from across the knowledge base, with plain-language definitions.


A

Adrenochrome — An oxidation product of adrenaline (epinephrine). A real chemical compound. Claimed by some conspiracy researchers to be harvested from frightened children as a psychedelic; this specific claim has no scientific basis. Adrenochrome can be synthesised cheaply in a laboratory. The claim originates partly from a fictional reference in Hunter S. Thompson's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1972).

AIPAC — American Israel Public Affairs Committee. A U.S. lobbying organisation that advocates for policies supportive of the State of Israel. A real and powerful lobbying group studied in mainstream political science.

AARO — All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office. The U.S. Department of Defense office established in 2022 to investigate Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP/UFOs).

AATIP — Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program. A classified Pentagon UAP investigation programme that ran from 2007-2012. Disclosed in 2017.

Agenda 21 — United Nations sustainable development plan adopted at the 1992 Rio Earth Summit. A non-binding resolution covering sustainable development goals. Seen by conspiracy researchers as a blueprint for world government and population control.

Agenda 2030 — UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Adopted by all 193 UN member states in 2015. Contains 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Subject of significant conspiracy theory interpretation.

Anunnaki — Ancient Mesopotamian pantheon of deities. Described in Sumerian, Akkadian, Babylonian, and Assyrian texts. Mainstream: mythological beings representing cosmic forces. Alternative interpretation (Zecharia Sitchin): literal extraterrestrial beings who arrived on Earth approximately 450,000 years ago.

Apophenia — The tendency to perceive meaningful patterns in random or unrelated data. A normal human cognitive function that, when applied beyond its evidence base, produces false pattern recognition. Key concept in evaluating numerological claims in conspiracy theory.

ARG — Alternate Reality Game. An interactive narrative that uses real-world media and activities to tell a story. QAnon has been compared to an ARG in structure.


B

BIS — Bank for International Settlements. The "central bank of all central banks," located in Basel, Switzerland. Operates under sovereign immunity — cannot be sued, its assets cannot be seized, and its premises cannot be entered by any government authority. Coordinates policy among the world's central banks. Founded 1930.

Black Pope — Informal title for the Superior General of the Jesuit Order, referring to the black robes worn by Jesuits (contrasting with the white vestments of the Pope). Used in conspiracy theory to describe the alleged real power behind the Vatican.

BND — Bundesnachrichtendienst. Germany's federal intelligence service. Founded with significant involvement of former Nazi intelligence officer Reinhard Gehlen, recruited under Operation Paperclip.

BCCI — Bank of Credit and Commerce International. A Pakistani-controlled bank that was a front for drug money laundering, arms trafficking, CIA covert operations, and bribery of international officials. Collapsed 1991. Investigated by a U.S. Senate committee.


C

CBDC — Central Bank Digital Currency. Digital money issued directly by a central bank. Key feature: programmability — CBDCs can be designed to expire, to be restricted to specific purchases, or to be cancelled for specific individuals. 134 countries developing or piloting CBDCs as of 2024.

CFR — Council on Foreign Relations. A U.S. think tank founded in 1921. Membership includes most senior U.S. secretaries of state and CIA directors. Publishes Foreign Affairs journal. Considered by conspiracy researchers to be a primary mechanism of elite policy coordination.

Chemtrails — "Chemical trails." The claim that the white trails behind aircraft contain deliberately sprayed chemical or biological agents, rather than simple water vapor condensation (contrails). See Chemtrails.

Church Committee — The Senate Select Committee to Study Governmental Operations with Respect to Intelligence Activities (1975-1976), chaired by Senator Frank Church of Idaho. Its investigations confirmed MK-Ultra, COINTELPRO, and Operation Mockingbird.

COINTELPRO — Counter Intelligence Program. FBI programme (1956-1971) that surveilled, infiltrated, discredited, and disrupted domestic political organisations including civil rights groups, the Black Panther Party, and the Socialist Workers Party. Confirmed by the Church Committee.

Compartmentalisation — The practice of dividing information about a secret programme so that each participant knows only their specific role and not the broader operation. Used in MK-Ultra, NSA surveillance, and other confirmed covert programmes.

Contrails — Condensation trails. The white streaks left by aircraft at high altitude, formed when hot engine exhaust meets cold air and the water vapor condenses into ice crystals. The mainstream scientific explanation for what conspiracy researchers call "chemtrails."

CSIS — Canadian Security Intelligence Service. Canada's domestic intelligence service. Equivalent to the FBI in the U.S.


D

Deep state — A term used to describe alleged government officials, intelligence agents, and military personnel who pursue their own agendas independent of or contrary to the elected government. Used by Trump administration officials to describe resistance within the bureaucracy. Used by conspiracy researchers to describe a more comprehensive hidden government.

Depopulation — The deliberate reduction of human population. Alleged by conspiracy researchers to be an elite goal, implemented through multiple vectors (vaccines, chemtrails, GMOs, HAARP). The Georgia Guidestones' first commandment called for maintaining humanity under 500 million.

Dialectic — In conspiracy theory use: the Hegelian dialectic applied as Problem-Reaction-Solution. See Problem-Reaction-Solution.

Disinfo / Disinformation — False information deliberately spread to deceive. Distinguished from misinformation (false information spread without intent to deceive). A key concern in both mainstream media and conspiracy research communities.

DMT — N,N-Dimethyltryptamine. A naturally occurring psychedelic compound found in many plants and some animals. Sometimes claimed to be related to pineal gland function (pineal DMT theory). Relevant to discussions of the pineal gland and consciousness.


E

EMF — Electromagnetic Field. The physical field produced by electrically charged objects. Radio waves, microwaves, and visible light are all forms of electromagnetic radiation at different frequencies. EMF health concerns relate primarily to non-ionising radiation from wireless devices and power lines.

ENMOD — Environmental Modification Convention. The 1977 international treaty prohibiting the use of environmental modification techniques for hostile military purposes. Signed by 78 nations. Used by conspiracy researchers as implicit acknowledgement that governments possess weather modification capabilities.

ESG — Environmental, Social, and Governance. A framework for corporate behaviour that considers environmental impact, social responsibility, and governance practices. Promoted by the World Economic Forum. Seen by conspiracy researchers as a mechanism for implementing WEF policy agenda through corporate governance.


F

False flag — A covert operation designed to appear as if conducted by a party other than the actual perpetrator. Historical examples: Operation Northwoods (proposed false flag operations against Americans). The term is used in conspiracy research to describe alleged government-staged attacks used to justify policy changes.

FISA — Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (1978). Created the FISA Court (FISC) to provide judicial oversight of intelligence surveillance operations. FISA courts have approved over 99% of government surveillance applications.

Five Eyes — Intelligence-sharing alliance between the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Established by the UKUSA Agreement (1946). Each country surveils other members' citizens and shares the results, allowing each to access intelligence about its own citizens that it cannot legally collect directly.

FOIA — Freedom of Information Act (1966). U.S. law that allows citizens to request government records. Key tool for conspiracy researchers and investigative journalists. Many confirmed conspiracies were revealed through FOIA requests.

Fractional reserve banking — The banking system in which banks are required to hold only a fraction of their deposits in reserve and can lend out the remainder. This allows banks to create money through lending. The money supply exceeds the physical cash in the system.


G

GcMAF — Globulin component Macrophage Activating Factor. A naturally occurring human protein that activates macrophages (immune cells). Researched as a potential treatment for cancer and other conditions. Associated with the "2015 holistic doctor deaths" conspiracy claims.

GCHQ — Government Communications Headquarters. Britain's signals intelligence agency. The UK equivalent of the NSA. Part of the Five Eyes network.

GESARA — Global Economic Security and Recovery Act. The international version of NESARA. Has no legal existence. See NESARA.

Geoengineering — Deliberate, large-scale manipulation of Earth's climate or weather. Real, actively researched scientific field including Stratospheric Aerosol Injection (SAI) and other approaches. Connected to chemtrails theory.

GMO — Genetically Modified Organism. A plant, animal, or microorganism whose genetic material has been altered using genetic engineering techniques. Subject to significant health, environmental, and corporate control concerns. See GMOs, Food Supply & Slow Poisoning.

Globalist — A person who favours international institutions and cross-border policy coordination over national sovereignty. In its legitimate use: a foreign policy position. In its coded antisemitic use: a specific reference to Jewish people in positions of international financial or political power. Context determines which meaning applies.

The Great Awakening — 1. A series of Protestant Christian revival movements in American history (18th-19th centuries). 2. In QAnon and alternative media: the coming mass consciousness shift in which humanity wakes up to the reality of elite control.

The Great Reset — The World Economic Forum's initiative (launched June 2020) calling for fundamental restructuring of the global economy. Has a published book, website, and communications campaign by Klaus Schwab and the WEF. See The Great Reset & Agenda 2030.


H

HAARP — High-frequency Active Auroral Research Program. A research facility in Gakona, Alaska, capable of projecting radio waves into the ionosphere. Military-funded (Navy, Air Force, DARPA). Alleged by conspiracy researchers to be capable of weather modification and earthquake triggering. See HAARP & Weather Modification.

Hegelian Dialectic — In conspiracy theory: the Problem-Reaction-Solution method of social engineering. Named after German philosopher Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770-1831). See Problem-Reaction-Solution.


I

Illuminati — 1. The Bavarian Illuminati: a real secret society founded by Adam Weishaupt in 1776, officially dissolved in 1785. 2. In contemporary conspiracy theory: a purported continuation of the original order, allegedly controlling world events through the Masonic and secret society network.

IMF — International Monetary Fund. International financial institution providing loans to countries in financial difficulty, typically with conditions ("structural adjustment") requiring economic policy changes. Criticised for conditions that harm developing nations.

IoT — Internet of Things. The network of physical devices (appliances, vehicles, sensors) connected to the internet and collecting and exchanging data. Creates a comprehensive data collection infrastructure whose privacy implications are significant.

INSLAW / PROMIS — A case involving allegations that the U.S. Justice Department stole software (PROMIS) from a small company, modified it with a surveillance "trapdoor," and distributed it to foreign intelligence agencies. Investigated by Congress. Connected to the death of journalist Danny Casolaro. Partially confirmed.


J

Jekyll Island — Private resort island in Georgia, USA, where the secret meeting that drafted the Federal Reserve Act was held in November 1910. Attendees represented Rockefeller, Morgan, and Rothschild banking interests.


K

Kabbalah — Jewish mystical tradition. Influences many Western esoteric and occult traditions. Referenced in Masonic ritual and in discussions of occult symbolism.

Khazarian Mafia — Conspiracy theory claim that Ashkenazi Jewish people descend primarily from Khazar converts to Judaism rather than ancient Israelites, and that this group secretly controls the world financial system. The historical Khazar conversion is documented; the conspiracy extension is an antisemitic claim. See The Antisemitic Thread.


L

LENR — Low Energy Nuclear Reactions. The current scientific terminology for what was initially called "cold fusion." Peer-reviewed research documenting anomalous energy effects in palladium-deuterium electrolysis systems. A minority scientific research field. Previously called "cold fusion."

Luciferianism — A philosophical and spiritual tradition venerating "Lucifer" as a symbol of light, reason, and liberation from religious authority. The word "Lucifer" means "light-bearer" in Latin, a reference to the morning star (Venus). In conspiracy theory: the alleged hidden religion of the inner circles of elite secret societies.


M

Maidan — Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence Square) in Kyiv, Ukraine. Site of the 2013-2014 Euromaidan protests that led to the overthrow of President Yanukovych. See Ukraine, Russia & Current Manufactured Conflict.

MIGA — Make Israel Great Again. Conspiracy theory variant of the MAGA slogan suggesting Trump's policies primarily serve Israeli rather than American interests.

MK-Ultra — The CIA's covert mind control programme (1953-1973). Conducted non-consensual experiments on tens of thousands of subjects using LSD, electroconvulsive therapy, and psychological torture. Confirmed by the Church Committee. See MK-Ultra & Continuation Programs.

mRNA — Messenger RNA. Genetic instructions used in the Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines to instruct cells to produce the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, triggering an immune response. Does not alter DNA. Subject to significant conspiracy theory claims.


N

NESARA — National Economic Security and Recovery Act. A fictional piece of legislation described by conspiracy researchers as having been secretly passed and suppressed. No such legislation exists in the Congressional Record. Originated with Harvey Barnard's genuine policy proposal, then fabricated into a secret-law narrative by Shaini Goodwin. NHI — Non-Human Intelligence. Term used in UAP/UFO research to describe potential non-human origin of unidentified aerial phenomena. Used by whistleblower David Grusch in 2023 congressional testimony.

NORAD — North American Aerospace Defense Command. Joint U.S.-Canadian military command responsible for aerospace warning and control of North America. Failed to intercept any aircraft before the September 11, 2001 attacks. See 9/11: The Inside Job Claims.

NSSM 200 — National Security Study Memorandum 200 (1974). Classified U.S. government document produced under Henry Kissinger's direction. Identified population growth in developing nations as a U.S. national security threat and recommended using foreign aid to encourage population reduction. Declassified 1989.

NWO — New World Order. The alleged goal of the hidden power structure described in this knowledge base: a one-world technocratic government replacing national sovereignty. The phrase was used publicly by President George H.W. Bush in 1990-1991 speeches.


O

ODESSA — Organisation der Ehemaligen SS-Angehörigen (Organisation of Former SS Members). Alleged escape network for Nazi war criminals after World War II. Its specific organisational structure is disputed by historians; the use of escape routes by former Nazis is documented. See WWII Conspiracy.


P

P2 (Propaganda Due) — A secret Masonic lodge operating in Italy, discovered in 1981. Its membership list included 962 Italian government officials, military chiefs, intelligence officers, and journalists, including Banco Ambrosiano chairman Roberto Calvi. Described as a "state within a state" by Italian parliamentary investigators.

Petrodollar — The arrangement (established 1973-1974) under which Saudi Arabia prices all oil sales in U.S. dollars and reinvests surplus dollars in U.S. Treasury bonds, in exchange for U.S. military protection. Creates global demand for dollars independent of U.S. economic performance. See The Central Banking System.

PNAC — Project for a New American Century. A neoconservative policy group founded in 1997 whose members included Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, and Paul Wolfowitz. Published a 2000 document describing its military transformation agenda and noting it would proceed slowly "absent some catastrophic and catalysing event — like a new Pearl Harbor."

PROMIS — Prosecutor's Management Information System. A software programme allegedly stolen by the U.S. Justice Department from its developer (INSLAW), modified with a surveillance trapdoor, and distributed to foreign intelligence agencies. Connected to the Danny Casolaro investigation.

PSYOP — Psychological Operation. Military and intelligence operations designed to influence the perceptions and attitudes of target audiences. PSYOP units exist in all major militaries and conduct operations including propaganda, deception, and information management.


Q

Q Clearance — A real U.S. Department of Energy security classification for nuclear weapons information. The basis of the "QAnon" name — claiming the anonymous poster held this security clearance. See QAnon & The White Hats.


R

Ratline — Escape route used by Nazi war criminals after World War II, primarily to South America. Used networks involving Vatican officials, Swiss banks, and sympathetic governments. Documented historical phenomenon. See WWII Conspiracy.

Red pill / Blue pill — Reference to the 1999 film The Matrix, in which taking the red pill means seeing reality and taking the blue pill means remaining in comfortable illusion. In conspiracy culture: "taking the red pill" means accepting the alternative worldview.

Retroreflectors — Corner cube mirrors left on the lunar surface by Apollo 11, 14, and 15 missions. Can be illuminated by Earth-based lasers; the reflection measures the Moon's distance with millimetre precision. Multiple independent observatories worldwide have confirmed them. Key counter-evidence to the Moon landing hoax theory.

Revelation of the method — Alleged occult doctrine requiring the "cryptocracy" (controlling elite) to announce its plans before implementing them. Explanations of why conspiracy theory elements are visible "in plain sight." Associated with researcher Michael Hoffman.


S

SAI — Stratospheric Aerosol Injection. A proposed geoengineering technique involving the injection of reflective particles (sulfur dioxide, aluminum oxide) into the upper atmosphere to reflect sunlight and cool the planet. Actively researched at Harvard and other institutions. Relevant to chemtrails theory.

SERE — Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape. U.S. military training programme for personnel at risk of capture. Teaches resistance to interrogation. The CIA's post-9/11 enhanced interrogation programme used SERE techniques in reverse — applying them to prisoners rather than teaching resistance to them.

Shadow-banning — The practice of limiting a social media user's reach without informing them that their content is being suppressed. Denied by platforms until confirmed in the Twitter Files.

Skull and Bones — Secret society at Yale University, founded 1832. Members include George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush, John Kerry, CIA directors, and numerous senior U.S. government officials. Also known as "the Order" or "Brotherhood of Death."

Smart city — Urban design and management approach using IoT sensors, AI analysis, and digital infrastructure to improve city services and management. Simultaneously described as a sustainability and convenience innovation and as a geographic surveillance and control system.

Social credit system — China's government-operated system that assigns scores to citizens based on behaviour, with scores affecting access to travel, education, employment, and services. The world's most complete operational example of surveillance-based social control.

SPAWAR — Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center (now Naval Information Warfare Systems Command). U.S. Navy research and development organisation. Conducted LENR (cold fusion) research published in peer-reviewed journals.

Spirit Cooking — 1. A performance art practice by artist Marina Abramovic involving instructions written with blood and bodily fluids. 2. A 2016 controversy when a WikiLeaks email showing Abramovic inviting John Podesta's brother to a Spirit Cooking dinner was interpreted by conspiracy researchers as evidence of elite occult practice.


T

TARP — Troubled Asset Relief Programme. $700 billion U.S. government bailout of the financial system following the 2008 financial crisis. Designed by Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, former CEO of Goldman Sachs.

Tavistock Institute — British research organisation founded 1947 with Rockefeller Foundation funding. Applies group psychology to social and organisational issues. Cited in conspiracy research as a centre for social engineering research with connections to British intelligence.

TPTB — The Powers That Be. Shorthand for the hidden controlling elite in conspiracy research communities.

Trilateral Commission — Policy coordination organisation founded by David Rockefeller in 1973. Brings together elites from North America, Western Europe, and Japan. Published The Crisis of Democracy (1975), which argued Western democracies were suffering from an "excess of democracy."


U

UAP — Unidentified Aerial Phenomena. The current official U.S. government term for what was previously called UFOs (Unidentified Flying Objects). The term was adopted to reduce cultural baggage.

UFO — Unidentified Flying Object. Any aerial object that cannot be immediately identified. In popular use: craft of possible extraterrestrial origin.

UKUSA Agreement — Intelligence-sharing agreement between the United States and United Kingdom, signed 1946, later extended to Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Created the Five Eyes network. Officially acknowledged in 2010 after decades of denial.


V

VAERS — Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System. A U.S. passive surveillance system for adverse events following vaccination. Anyone can submit a report; a report does not establish causation between the vaccine and the reported event.

VICP — National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program. U.S. programme established by the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act (1986) to compensate individuals who experience vaccine injuries. Has paid over $5 billion since 1988.


W

WEF — World Economic Forum. A Swiss non-profit that convenes annual meetings at Davos, Switzerland. Membership includes approximately 1,000 global companies. Founded by Klaus Schwab. Publisher of the Great Reset initiative.

White Hats — In conspiracy theory (particularly QAnon): military and intelligence insiders allegedly working against the deep state cabal alongside Donald Trump. The "good guys" in the conspiracy theory narrative.

Whistleblower — An individual who discloses information about illegal, unethical, or dangerous activity within an organisation. Key mechanism through which confirmed conspiracies have been exposed. Examples: Daniel Ellsberg (Pentagon Papers), Edward Snowden (NSA), David Grusch (UAP).


Z

ZOG — Zionist Occupational Government. A white supremacist and neo-Nazi claim that Western governments are controlled by Zionist interests. An explicitly antisemitic conspiracy theory term. See The Antisemitic Thread.

Zero-point energy — In quantum mechanics, the lowest possible energy state of a quantum mechanical system. The quantum vacuum theoretically contains significant energy due to uncertainty principle requirements. Some researchers propose that this energy might be extracted. No confirmed device has demonstrated this. See Free Energy Suppression.
